Smiles for Pets and Their Owners

Your pet’s dental health deserves your attention. After all, teeth can have a major impact on a pet’s overall health, and regular dental exams can help your veterinarian catch and treat any health concerns early.

Just like humans, your pets can suffer from dental issues, such as gum disease, tooth decay, and oral infections. These conditions can cause pain, discomfort, and difficulty eating. Dental care can help prevent tooth loss so your pet can continue to eat and chew comfortably. However, poor oral health doesn't just affect the mouth. When bacteria enter the bloodstream, it can lead to systemic health problems, including heart disease, kidney disease, and diabetes.

More Than Freshening Dog Breath—Dental Services to Keep Pets Healthy

At Kroner Animal Care and The Plains Veterinary Hospital, we’re here to provide the dental services your pet needs. We want to be sure your pet’s teeth and gums are healthy and then help to keep them that way. After an initial examination, your veterinarian can work with you to create a dental care plan for your pet, whether that means a professional cleaning or an advised at-home dental routine.

  • Dental Exam

Regular dental check-ups are essential for detecting early signs of dental disease or other oral health issues.

  • Professional Dental Cleaning

We can give your pet a fresh, clean smile with a professional cleaning of the teeth and gums to remove plaque and tartar buildup. This procedure is performed under anesthesia to ensure a safe and comprehensive cleaning. Our veterinary staff always works with owners to decide the best process for their pets and their pre surgical options. For example, we recommend pets seven years of age and older have pre-surgery blood work to check for any underlying conditions.

  • Tooth Extractions

When a tooth is severely damaged or diseased, it may need to be extracted to prevent further complications. Pet owners will have to give consent for veterinarians to extract any diseased or damaged teeth that are discovered during an exam or professional cleaning.

  • Dental Radiography (X-rays)

X-rays can reveal hidden dental problems, such as abscesses or fractures, which are not visible during a visual examination. Consent from pet owners is required before X-rays can be taken of a pet’s teeth.

Veterinary dental health contributes to the well-being, comfort, and longevity of our furry companions. By addressing dental issues and providing preventive care, you can ensure that your pet maintains a healthy smile and enjoys a pain-free, active, and vibrant life.
